Forensic anthropology

Forensic anthropology is a specialty of physical anthropology, which uses and applies its methods and techniques to assist with the prosecution of justice, in cases where identification is required in the death of unknown persons in medico-legal contexts.

Forensic anthropology

Its main objective is the individualization and identification of a person through their physical features, through a morpho-comparative study. For this process, forensic anthropology is based on the study of human skeletal remains and the environment, in addition to using somatology and osteology. Among the identification processes are:

  • Sex

  • Age

  • Racial affiliation

  • Height

  • Body proportions

  • Individual traits

  • Pathologies

  • Time, causes and circumstances of death

In recent years the demand for forensic anthropologists has increased alarmingly, and given that its field of application enables the increase in human identification, it makes it a highly required and highly demanded science. requested at least nationally, not only in large cities (such as CDMX, Guadalajara and Monterrey). Thanks to the anthropologists and forensic doctors who cooperate side by side, many relatives of “disappeared” victims have managed to obtain peace, by positively identifying the person in question, managing to close cycles of hopelessness and anguish of not knowing what happened to their relative. It is indisputable that with the help of forensic anthropology and what it can provide for the clarification of a criminal act when it is involved in medical-legal contexts, as we well know it is not the only science or discipline that joins the law enforcement team, There are many and very varied and each of them contributes something to the investigation to make it effective and complete the puzzle of the fact.
